October 2024

Dear Parent and Carer,

It was lovely to see so many of you at Parents evening and share the great learning and work that is happening for all pupils, thank you for all your continued support. A special thank you to Maya, Stanley and Thando who did an amazing job welcoming parents as part of their Head and Deputy duties.

Thank you to everyone for your generous and kind donations to our Harvest Festival Collection. Our whole school community has come together to donate food and toiletries which were greatly received by the Hemel Community fridge.

This term has already been filled with exciting events which have been enjoyed by all. Our Year 6 pupils took part in Conflict and anger management workshops learning about how it is okay to be cross sometimes and how we learn to control our feelings and also had a workshop with Magistrates when they found out about the law and consequences.

It was also great to see so many Reception parents enjoying lunch with their child last month.

The children thoroughly embraced Mental health day , starting the day with a reflective and mindful assembly led by Lucy Mortimer and the school was awash with yellow clothing which really brightened everyone's day!

The class assemblies by Kingfishers and Otters were exceptional and gave us all such important messages about having aspirations and learning from the Windrush generation.

Today has been a fantastic day, firstly the parent assembly where Reception children and Year 6 shared with parents facts about their buddies and our TTRS dress up like a rockstar day. Remember to encourage  your child to do lots of multiplication practice on TTRS over the holidays.

When we return we will be thinking about how to keep ourselves safe during firework season, the darker months and road safety.  To launch this we are having a 'Be Bright Be Seen' day, so please send your child/ren into school wearing the brightest clothing they have on Tuesday 5th November

We are looking forward to the many more events planned for this year so please keep checking the school calendar for details.

The next Parent Mindful cuppa morning is Thursday 7th November at 9am.

Have a great, happy and safe half term

We look forward to seeing everyone back to school on Monday 4th November

Carnegie Mental Health Award

We are honoured to receive the Bronze Award from the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools. This recognition highlights our dedication to creating a positive and supportive environment for all. It acknowledges our ongoing efforts to prioritise the mental well-being of students, pupils and staff, ensuring that every child feels valued, understood, and supported in their learning journey.

A huge thank you to Mrs Crute-Mussell and Lucy Mortimer who have themselves made significant contributions to improve the well being of pupils and gathered the evidence for this award.

This award is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our entire school community. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making our school a safer, happier, and more inclusive place to learn!

We believe that pupil leadership is not just about holding positions of authority, but also about developing the qualities and skills that make effective leaders. Through these leadership opportunities, our pupils develop the ability to listen to others, consider different perspectives, and make informed decisions. They learn the important attributes such as empathy, resilience, and integrity. These skills are transferable and will benefit our pupils throughout their lives.

We are really looking forward to working with you as young leaders this year and watching you develop and grow.

Attendance and Leave of Absence Policy

A summary of the school’s Attendance and Leave of Absence Policy is available on the school website - Attendance and Absence Policy 2024

As you are aware the government changed penalty notices and fines which came into effect from 1st September. Please read the poster and policy for further details.

If you are intending to ask for leave of absence during term time for your child then please read this policy first.

Attendance in school is really important. Being in school is important to your child's academic achievement, well being, and wider development.

Getting to school late can also mean your child misses out on important learning which could affect their achievement or they could miss social time with friends and the time to settle into class which can impact on their well being.
